Outreach Update!

As all of you know I am a part of the Cairns/LF PNG team, and I am extremely excited about this! However, I wanted to take the time to give you all some updates as I know you are stoked for me and want to be kept in the loop. This past week our team was reminded of our need to be flexible and to trust in God when He asks us to change direction.

The LF outreach in PNG relies on the PNG government to provide the medicine that we would be handing out. Apparently there is a problem with this and the LF medication will not be available for out outreach in May. As you can imagine, our staff, who have been planning this for a long time had a difficult time explaining to us that the main focus of our outreach had fallen through. But guys, God is so much bigger, so much greater and still has such a calling for us. After finding out that we would be unable to do LF work, we were hit with the reality that ultimately whatever we do, we will be doing what God is calling us to do, and it will be meeting needs. With all that said, we are still going to PNG but the focus of our outreach will not be LF. As of now we have two possibilities for what we might be doing- but nothing is set in stone as of now(really nothing is ever set in stone though!).

The neat thing about God is that He has perfect timing.  Around the time that we found out the LF medication would not be available, we happened to have teams of staff in PNG meeting with government officials about what the needs were and what YWAM would be doing there moving forward. So as we lost the focus of our outreach, YWAM Townsville leaders were getting requests from PNG officials about where and what teams were needed for. So we are still team PNG and we have a purpose! We just aren’t sure what exactly it is yet! As of now the two possibilities that have surfaced are:

1.     They have asked that all the kids in the primary and high schools in Port Moresby have their ears, eyes and teeth assessed. So as of now, we may be spending two weeks there working in all the schools checking eyes, ears and mouths, as well as hanging out and getting to talk to the youth!
2.     The other option that has come up is a little more tentative but would be really awesome! Generally as a base we ask to come in and help different Provinces in PNG, but there is a Province that we have never been to that has asked YWAM to come. There is a lot that needs to happen for this to work out for our team(base leaders would have to visit first to see if it is safe to send our team, cost, needs, etc,) but if it works out we would possibly be going there to do community assessment to identify specific need to prepare the Province for a ship outreach in the future! I have a huge heart for the ship ministry, so I think it would be awesome that eventhough I won’t be on the ship, I would be able to have a part in it’s ministry!

As I said everything is very tentative right now, but as I know, I will let you know! Regardless, I am super excited about our outreach and I know it doesn’t matter what we do, God will work through us to bless others! Please be praying for our leaders as they have put a lot of time into preparing to do LF work and now have to plan new things. They are wonderful people and I know that they are passionate about being in PNG and making a difference!

Things are wonderful here! I am having the time of my life and know I am so blessed to be having this experience. I feel at home and there’s no place I’d rather be! Thank you for all of your support!

Oh and if you were planning on supporting me and never got around to it… I am only 400 dollars short of being fully funded for lectures&outreach…how awesome is that!!!! Thank you for all of your support and prayers! I am so blessed by you!

Love&Blessings,
Kayla
